OVERVIEW
Our Mission: “To significantly impact the direction of our community’s youth by raising funds in a social setting that challenges young professional men to be community leaders.”
Who?
The Phoenix Club of Jackson (PCOJ) is a registered Non-Profit Organization in Jackson, Mississippi that raises money in a social setting. What initially began in 1955 and continues to thrive in Memphis, Tennessee, found itself “reborn again” in Nashville and Birmingham at the turn of the century. Today, the work of the Phoenix Club has grown to include Jackson, Mississippi. We are a catalyst in raising money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi as work to increase their documented effectiveness in our community. The club raises money in a manner that challenges members to reach out into the community for funds that enable our disadvantaged youth to prosper. Since the Boys and Girls Clubs have proven to make a measurable difference in our community, the Phoenix Club proudly champions their cause.
Why the Phoenix Club?
For decades, the Phoenix Club has been a good mix of hard work and hard play benefiting the Boys and Girls Clubs in like-minded cities. Since its humble beginnings, the Phoenix Club has helped support the Boys and Girls Clubs. PCOJ continues to grow to provide annual endowments for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi.
The Phoenix Club of Jackson kicked off with its inaugural event in 2007 and has gained recognition and support from the community. With effort in this exciting initiative, members make long lasting friendships while giving back to the greater Jackson community. Men invited to join have always been required to meet two basic requirements: a sincere interest in furthering the goals of the Phoenix Club itself, and potential for future leadership in the community.
The Phoenix Club holds regular lunch meetings and raises money with signature fundraising events such as the Seersucker and Sombreros Derby Party, Holiday Greeting Card Campaign, and Casino Night. Lunch meetings are held at River Hills Tennis Club. Members enjoy hearing speakers that have impacted our surroundings and are playing key roles in ourt community. In order to spend time with some of our beneficiaries, PCOJ members will also have several events at different Boys and Girls Clubs locations throughout the year. Fundraising updates, member news, cookouts, and lunches will be announced through out online newsletter referred to as “The Birdword.”
What exactly are the events?
First, Seersucker and Sombreros is an annual Kentucky Derby Party event held during May. Seersucker and Sombreros has quickly become one of Jackson ’s premier parties attended by countless community Who’s Who. This event recognizes the traditions of the Derby and Cinco de Mayo.
Second, is the Holiday Greeting Card Campaign. This endeavor provides a locally produced selection of greeting cards that enables businesses and individuals to make tax-deductible holiday greeting card purchases.
Third and final, our Casino Night is a late January event which includes a full casino, a great band, and arguably one of Jackson’s most impressive crowds.
Please see the website’s main page under “Events” for links to each event’s respective web site.
